If you haven’t watched this episode of
Supernatural, I’d do so before reading this review. It’s going to be impossible to discuss the season finale without stumbling into some spoilers. It sounds weird to say this but in a way,
Supernatural should have ended with this
episode. It would have been a stunning and sad end to a dark and melancholy series. Outside of the little coda just before the closing credits, this could have been the end of the
show. The creators were working for some time under the impression that this was to be the last season of
Supernatural. Imagine what kind of guts it took to create such a dark end for these characters? Now that there is going to be a season six the writers had to build in a glimmer of hope and it came from that previously mentioned coda.
