Background and Personality
History Abarai Renji grew up as a street urchin and orphan in the Rukongai District of Soul Society. There he befriended a young girl named Rukia who inspired him with the dream of becoming a Shinigami. They attended the Shinigami together but became separated when Rukia was adopted into the Kuchiki family.

Renji served in the fifth and eleventh divisions before moving to sixth division where he became Vice-Captain and befriended (as much as possible, anyway) Byakuya Kuchiki. Although initially Renji viewed Ichigo as an interloper in Soul Society, they teamed up in order to save the life or Rukia when she was to be executed in a plot by Captain Aizen. They also worked together in order to counter the Bounto threat and to thwart an attempt by Aizen to destroy Karakura Town.

On two occasions Renji has actually fought against his captain- the first when Renji was attempting to save Rukia from an unjust execution, and the second time when Captain Kuchiki pretended to defect from Soul Society during the Zanpuktoh Rebellion. Both times, Renji put up a good fight but was ultimately defeated. He is quite relieved that he and his captain are once again on the same side.

Personality Much like Ichigo Kurosaki, Renji is hot-heated and impatient. He is extremely competitive and doesn't like other people making fun of him or making him look bad. He trains vigorously in order to overcome anyone who bests him in a fight.

Although they often insult each other and have a fierce rivalry, Renji and Ichigo are good friends- possibly because they share such a similar personality. More than once, Renji has taken sides with Ichigo despite explicit instructions from Soul Society, as the two red-headed Shinigami often see eye-to-eye and are willing to ignore orders which go against their sense of judgment.

Zanpaktou Information
Zanpaktou Name: Zabimaru ("Baboon King")
Zanpaktou Looks: a curved sword with an extremely wide blade- about six inches wide. Spikes appear at intervals along the blade's length.
Zanpaktou Description:
Released Zanpaktou Description: In Shikai form, the blade can extend up to thirty feet and can stay this length for three attacks. While capable of covering extremely wide areas in such a form, wielding it is more difficult. The blade retracts to normal for a few seconds after three attacks have been extended. In Bankai form, the sword appears as a sixty foot long bone serpent with a mane of red hair and glowing yellow eyes. In this form, it can coil about Renji to protect him or can separate its bone segments to minimize damage taken to itself from incoming attacks. However, it cannot attack while its segments are divided. It can also fire a "Bone Cannon" from its mouth which shoots a large beam of red energy.
